MQM leader Babar Ghauri’s lawyer has decided to file a contempt of court petition after he was detained by law enforcement agencies.
According to Karachi Airport Police, the self-styled exiled MQM leader Babar Ghauri arrived in Karachi from Dubai on Monday night and was taken into custody from the airport.
Former Federal Minister Babar Ghauri’s lawyer said that his client had taken security bail in the cases but he was arrested.
It may be recalled that Babar Ghauri has distanced himself from organizational matters since the anti-national speech of MQM founder Altaf Hussain and was living in the United States.
He was also considered a close associate of Altaf Hussain. He became a senator after becoming a member of the National Assembly on an MQM ticket and was also given the important ministry of port and shipping.
Babar Ghauri had arrived in Dubai from the United States a few days ago where he visited former President Pervez Musharraf and met other important personalities including former Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad.
He had announced to come to Pakistan with his family last week and had also booked a return ticket but canceled the ticket from Dubai on time.
It may be recalled that Ghauri’s lawyer had approached the Sindh High Court before his arrival and said that his clients wanted to return to the country to face the cases.
He had sought bail in two cases against Babar Ghauri on which the court had granted him bail.
Other cases have been registered against Babar Ghauri, including money laundering, land grabbing and illegal recruitment in the Ministry of Ports and Shipping.
In a statement, Solat Mazra, who was sentenced to death for the murder of MD KESC Shahid Hamid, also accused Babar Ghauri of being wanted by the authorities in connection with the investigation.
