Punjab Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid has said that two people were killed and 26 others injured in a blast in Lohari Gate area of Lahore.
The blast took place at New Anar Kali Bazaar near Lohari Gate in Lahore on Thursday, damaging several buildings and motorcycles.
Talking to media at Mayo Hospital Lahore, Dr Yasmeen Rashid said, “Twenty-two of the injured are in a stable condition while four others are in critical condition and are undergoing surgery.”
Dr Yasmeen Rashid further said that when a patient was brought to the hospital, he had already died while another died at the hospital.
Earlier, Lahore police spokesman Rana Arif told ejaznews that the death toll had risen to three.
The spokesman said the bomb had been planted on a motorcycle outside the Prize Bond store.
Those injured in the blast have been shifted to a nearby hospital while rescue personnel have also reached the spot.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in Lahore blast and directed to provide immediate medical aid to the injured.
According to a message issued from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister has sought a report from the Punjab government.
Earlier, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had also demanded a report on the blast from the provincial government.
On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar strongly condemned the blast in Anarkali and said that those responsible for the blast should be arrested and brought to justice.
He expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives in the blast and said that the Punjab government shares in the grief of the bereaved families.
He termed the blast as terrorism and said that “a handful of terrorists cannot shake the resolve of the nation. This incident is a heinous act of sabotaging the atmosphere of law and order.”
