The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that all the individuals were “guilty of a number of heinous crimes”.
The report said that these individuals included criminals belonging to ISIS, Al Qaeda, Houthi rebels in Yemen and other terrorist organizations.
The SPA statement said those executed were planning attacks in the country, including the killing of a large number of civilians and members of the security forces.
“These include punishments for targeting government officials and key economic sites, killing or physically disabling law enforcement officers, and laying landmines to target police vehicles,” the SPA said. ۔
The statement added that the punishments included kidnapping, torture, rape, arms smuggling, and bombings in the country.
The death toll of 81 people is the highest ever in a single day in Saudi Arabia, including 73 Saudis, seven Yemenis and one Syrian.
According to the SPA, all the convicts were tried in three different stages in Saudi courts under the supervision of 13 judges.
The statement added that the state would take a firm stand against terrorism and extremist ideologies that threaten its stability.
This rich Gulf country has one of the highest death penalty rates in the world and often carries the death penalty.
Saudi Arabia has been the target of numerous shootings and bombings by ISIS fighters since late 2014.
Earlier, in 2021, a total of 69 people were sentenced to death.
