Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Malik Ahmad Khan has said that journalist and TV anchor Imran Riaz Khan has been arrested while his lawyer has also confirmed the arrest.

The arrests took place late Tuesday night. Imran Riaz’s lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq said, “He was arrested by Punjab police at Islamabad Toll Plaza.”

“Imran Riaz Khan was arrested from Attock District, Rawalpindi Division,” Malik Ahmad Khan said in a statement.

He said that cases have been registered against Imran Riaz Khan in Punjab, therefore he has been arrested from within the limits of Punjab. The impression that the arrest came from Islamabad is wrong.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah of the Islamabad High Court heard the petition against the arrest of Anchor.

Justice Athar Minallah said that a report came last night that Imran Riaz had been arrested from Punjab.

“Imran Riaz called me and told me that he was at the Islamabad toll plaza. He was arrested from within the boundaries of Islamabad,” the lawyer said.

The lawyer further said that the police had registered 17 cases in the Lahore High Court, but the court was not informed about the FIR of the night, it was concealed, I filed a separate contempt of court petition in the Lahore High Court. Filed

The Chief Justice said that each court has its own jurisdiction. The Lahore High Court can look into the matter. Imran Riaz Khan was arrested in Attock which does not fall under the jurisdiction of this court. This court cannot investigate Punjab.

The lawyer said that this court had given clear orders regarding the arrest and they have been violated.

Justice Athar Minallah said that this court had spoken of arrest from Islamabad and now this arrest has taken place outside our jurisdiction.

He further said that Islamabad police did not arrest Imran Riaz Khan, Punjab police did, we are not giving any observation in this case.

The Chief Justice further said that if the Lahore High Court said that an arrest had been made from Islamabad, it would bring the order before this court.

The lawyer said that the Islamabad police is saying that the arrest was made from Punjab while we are saying that the arrest was made from the borders of Islamabad.

The Chief Justice further said that it was in his interest to approach the Lahore High Court and at the same time disposed of the petition.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has disposed of the petition declaring the arrest of journalist and anchor Imran Riaz as out of its jurisdiction.
