Masjid-e-Nabawi Incident: Sheikh Rashid’s nephew granted two-day physical remand

It may be recalled that the magistrate court had yesterday handed over Rashid Shafiq to the police on a one-day physical remand.

Plaintiff’s lawyer Sheikh Ahsan-ud-Din Advocate said that the accused was found guilty of insulting the Prophet’s Mosque and the accused termed all the commotion as Imran Khan’s victory.

He said that in this case it is necessary to get complete record of mobile data and other important information of the accused on which we requested 3 days physical remand from the court, however the court granted 2 days remand.

On the eve of the hearing, the police made very strict security arrangements and no one was allowed to enter the court except the lawyers.

Besides, a large number of PTI workers chanted slogans against the government and in favor of Imran Khan. Haleem Adil Sheikh and Zulfi Bukhari were also present in the court premises on the occasion.

It may be recalled that Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, a nephew of National Assembly Member and former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, was arrested on Sunday morning on arrival at Islamabad International Airport from Saudi Arabia in connection with a blasphemy case.

Rashid Shafiq was later remanded in the custody of Attock New Airport Police for one day for posting a video on social media, in which he chanted slogans against Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his delegation at the premises of Masjid-e-Nabawi. The planters were seen cheering.

The case has been registered against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other senior figures of the former government as well as 100 to 150 others in Attock.

It may be recalled that two separate cases have been registered against Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his delegation for chanting slogans and insulting them at Masjid-e-Nabawi, including Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid and his nephew. Numerous leaders have been nominated.

Earlier in the case filed in Faisalabad, Penalties under Section 295 of the Penal Code of Pakistan (damaging or desecrating a place of worship with intent to insult a religion), 295A (intentional and malicious acts aimed at any class Insulting religion or religious beliefs to provoke its religious sentiments), 296 (disturbing religious gatherings) and 109 (inciting wrongdoing) are included.

Apart from PTI central leaders and other associates Fawad Chaudhry, Shahbaz Gill, Qasim Suri, Sahibzada Jahangir and Anil Mussarat, former interior minister Sheikh Rashid and his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq have also been named in the cases.
