Israel has fired several missiles at the Syrian capital, Damascus, but no major damage has been reported.
Syria’s state news agency, Sanaa, was quoted as saying that the air defense system in Damascus often thwarted Israeli missiles.

The report quoted Syrian military sources as saying that “enemy Israel targeted the occupied Golan Heights and some areas south of Damascus, most of which were destroyed by missiles in the air.”

According to an Report correspondent in the capital, Damascus, explosions were heard in the city in the evening.

Last month, three Syrian soldiers were killed near Damascus in Israeli ground-to-ground missile strikes.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Israeli strikes near Damascus have targeted Iranian posts and weapons stockpiles.

Since the outbreak of civil war in Syria in 2011, Israel has launched hundreds of attacks on neighboring countries, including government forces, backed by Iran.

Forces and Lebanese Hezbollah were targeted.

Although Israel rarely comments on such attacks, it has acknowledged hundreds of such attacks.

The Israeli military said in a statement that its aim was to prevent the enemy from entering the area.

As many as half a million people have been killed so far in the ongoing conflict in Syria, while half of the population has fled to other countries.
