In northern India, a passenger bus skidded off a mountain road and fell into a deep ravine on Monday, killing 16 people, including school children.
“Rescuers pulled the critically injured out of the wreckage of the bus and rushed them to hospital,” Ashutosh Garg, a senior administrator in Himachal Pradesh’s Kolo district, told Khabar Media.
“There were about 20 passengers on the bus,” said Prashant Sarkik Singh, another official.
Pictures shared on social media show rescuers trying to evacuate the injured from the yellow bus that crashed.
According to officials, the cause of the accident on the bus could not be immediately ascertained.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed regret over the accident.
It should be noted that fatal road accidents due to poor driving, broken roads and old vehicles are common in India.
According to police, “more than 110,000 people are killed in road accidents in India every year.”
