Heatwave will continue till the end of May

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, is still hot like the rest of the country, and a local cricketer and footballer have died of heatstroke in the last two days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department says the recent heatwave across the country is likely to continue till the end of May.

Sardar Sarfraz, chief meteorologist of the Meteorological Department, told Urdu News that the heatwave in Sindh, Balochistan and North Pakistan is likely to continue till the end of May.

According to Sardar Sarfraz, monsoon rains in Sindh and Balochistan start in July and before that the chances of rains in these areas are low.

However, he said that there could be pre-monsoon rains in northern Pakistan including Islamabad and the intensity of heat could be reduced due to winds and strong winds.

According to a spokesman of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Karachi, a local cricketer named Umar Khan fell to the ground while bowling during a match after which he was shifted to the hospital but could not recover.

Earlier, a footballer named Wali Muhammad had lost his life due to heatstroke during a match in Lyari due to heatstroke.

On the other hand, a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, which was attended by federal ministers and officials of other agencies including the National Disaster Management Authority.

Due to the extreme heat, water is also in short supply in most parts of the country. According to a government spokesman, the prime minister has instructed all agencies to launch a public campaign to save water and take steps to store water before the monsoon rains.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has asked the authorities to ensure immediate supply of water to human settlements and animals in Cholistan.
