Marine Le Pen,Macron rival in the French presidential election, has vowed to ban Muslim women’s headscarves.
According to the media, President Macron has said that if Le Pen is elected the new president of France, the country could fall victim to civil war.
During a televised presidential debate on Wednesday, Le Pen confirmed that he stands by his idea of a scarf.
He described the scarf as “Islamist uniforms” and said “they are not fighting against Islam.”
In response, Macron said: “If you do this, it will push France into a civil war. I am saying this with all sincerity.
“France is the home of enlightenment and globalization,” he said. It will be the first country in the world to ban the use of religious symbols in public places. What you are proposing is not reasonable.
“What do you suggest is how many police officers would be needed to pursue a headscarf or any other religious symbol?”
“I think we need legislation against the Islamist ideology,” Le Pen said. I am not against the religion of Islam which has followers in France.
“I am fighting against the Islamist ideology which is an ideology which degrades the fundamentals of our state, which negates equality between men and women and does not give much importance to secularism and democracy.”
