Former Interior Minister Rehman Malik has died after a long illness

Confirming Rehman Malik’s death, his spokesman Riaz Ali Turi said: “The pain, sorrow and grief are indescribable.

He was rushed to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad on a ventilator in early February after his condition deteriorated.

Rehman Malik’s family said he had difficulty breathing due to a lung infection caused by the corona virus.

Political career

He had a long career as a politician and held various positions besides being the Home Minister from 2008 to 2013.

He obtained a master’s degree in statistics from Karachi University in 1973 and was awarded an honorary PhD degree by the same institute in 2012.

He was awarded the Star of Courage and the Distinguished Service Award for his services to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Condolence

Expressing condolences, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that he was saddened to hear the news of demise of former Interior Minister and PPP leader Rehman Malik and shared in the grief of the family.

Former Deputy Chairman Senate, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, while expressing deep sorrow and grief over his demise, said that he was shocked to hear the sad news of Rehman Malik’s demise.

He said that Rehman Malik was a good man and a good politician, now his death is a great loss for the country’s politics.

Expressing grief over the demise of Rehman Malik, PPP co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari said that Rehman Malik’s services to the country were unforgettable and he had been a hardworking and capable interior minister.

Saleem Mandviwala further said that the vacuum created by the demise of Rehman Malik can never be filled, his services to the party will always be remembered.

On the other hand, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal while expressing condolences on the demise of Rehman Malik said that he was deeply saddened by the demise of former Interior Minister Rehman Malik, may Allah forgive him and grant patience to his family. Please.

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that he was deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of our friend, brother, colleague and a great leader Senator Rehman Malik.
