According to a recent report by the US Department of Justice, 139 million guns have been manufactured for the US commercial market since 2000, of which 11.3 million were manufactured in 2020 alone.

According to the Justice Department, 71 million more guns were imported in the same period, after which the country became a hotbed of violence, suicide and murder.

The report states that in most of the killings, the Americans used easy-to-operate semi-automatic assault rifles that were available to them at very low prices from the market.

Some also used semi-automatic 9mm pistols, which are mostly used by the police.

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said, “We can only stop the recent surge in violence if we take effective action based on the information available.”

“This report is an important step towards improvement. The Justice Department will collect all the necessary data that would cause such incidents of violence and force shooters to take to the streets.

On May 14, an 18-year-old man, Patten Gendron, opened fire on a market in Buffalo, New York, killing at least 11 people.

Police described the incident as racially motivated.

The next day, one person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at a church in the US state of California.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, according to the Associated Press. Police say the attacker was apprehended and tied up by people inside the church.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said last week that the number of gun-related murders in the United States had risen sharply in 2020.

In 2020, there were 19,350 homicides that were 35% higher than in 2019.

In 2020, there were 24,245 incidents of suicide through weapons, which was one and a half percent more than in 2019.

The United States produced 3.9 million guns a year in 2000, increasing the number to 11.3 million in 20 years.

In 2020 alone, 5.5 million pistols and about 1 million revolvers were manufactured.

According to the report of the Justice Department, in the year 2021, the authorities confiscated 19,244 such guns whereas in the last five years only 1,758 guns were seized.
