The United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to the United States has said cruise missiles and drones were used in attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Abu Dhabi.

According to Arab News, this is the first time that the UAE has said that missiles were used in Monday’s attacks in which three people were killed and seven injured.

“Houthi rebels fired several missiles and drones at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, causing three tankers to explode,” he said.

UAE Ambassador Yousuf Al-Otaiba said that UAE had destroyed some missiles.

Earlier, the ambassador called on the United States to re-designate the Houthi rebels as terrorists.

US President Joe Biden has said he is considering re-designating Houthi rebels as terrorists.

President Biden made the remarks during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

The ambassador said the UAE had long since abandoned the war in Yemen. Attacking a country that is not involved in the fighting means that the Houthis will be declared a terrorist organization again.
