Chow Mein
Chow Mein is a popular Chinese dish made with stir-fried noodles, vegetables, and meat. Here’s a recipe to make Chow Mein at home:
Ingredients:
- 8 oz. chow mein noodles
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 lb. boneless chicken breast or beef, sliced into thin strips
- 1 cup sliced carrots
- 1 cup sliced cabbage
- 1 cup sliced celery
- 1 cup sliced bell pepper
- 1 cup sliced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup chicken or beef broth
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Cook the chow mein noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse under cold water. Set aside.
- In a wok or large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over high heat. Add the chicken or beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the wok and set aside.
- Add the sliced vegetables, garlic, and ginger to the wok and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until they are crisp-tender.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and broth. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and stir to coat.
- Add the cooked chow mein noodles and the cooked chicken or beef to the wok. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes or until everything is heated through and the sauce has thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Chow Mein!
Note: You can customize this recipe by using different vegetables and proteins. You can also make it vegetarian by omitting the meat and using vegetable broth instead of chicken or beef broth.
