

Indian police say 36 people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh after a Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman clashed over controversial anti-Islam remarks.
According to Indian TV channel NDTV, police have also registered an FIR against unknown persons in Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
According to officials, 13 policemen and 30 people from both groups were injured in the clashes.
After Friday prayers, Muslims in Kanpur called for a protest after controversial remarks by BJP spokesperson Nopur Sharma. Violence was reported in different parts of the city and the two groups pelted each other with stones.
Police Commissioner Vijay Singh Meena said that “arrests have been made on the basis of videos and more people are being identified through videos.”
He said the conspirators would be prosecuted under the Gangster Act and their properties would be confiscated.
Heavy security has been deployed in the city to maintain law and order and deal with any untoward incident.
