Messi and Mbappe
Following the soccer World Cup final, French club Paris Saint-Germain teammates Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe will compete against each other for the 2022 FIFA Men’s Player award on Monday. Other contenders for the Ballon d’Or title include Karim Benzema.
France’s Kylian Mbappé made history by scoring a hat-trick and the Golden Boot in the World Cup final.
The award ceremony takes place in Paris. Messi, who led Argentina to the World Cup, seems to have won the award over France’s Mbappe.
Messi has won the Ballon d’Or seven times.
The award-winning jury consists of the captain and coach of each country’s national team, along with a journalist from that country, while fans can also vote.
France’s Mbappe became the second footballer to score three goals in last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Geoff Hirst had previously achieved this feat in 1966.
After Mbappe scored three goals, the match with Argentina ended in a draw, but France lost on penalty shootout.
Kylian Mbappe is now 24 years old. He scored eight goals in the World Cup. He is currently the best player of Paris Saint-Germain along with Lionel Messi.
He is also the top scorer in Football League One.
“Since Messi has won the World Cup, he has the best chance to win, that’s a fact,” said Ruud Gult, a retired Dutch footballer who won the Ballon d’Or.
He said, “But I also value Mbappe’s game very much.” For me, he is also on the same level as Messi. What he did in the final, to take on that responsibility, was unbelievable.
