After Elon Musk took control of Twitter and announced an eight-dollar-a-month fee for account verification, BlueCheck, a large number of users are looking for an alternative to the microblogging website.
For this reason, a platform on social media seems to be involved in the conversation of users. The name of this platform is Mastodon.
According to the American newspaper Washington Post, more than 70 thousand new users have turned to Mastodon in the last few days. According to reports, Mastodon currently has more than 655,000 users.
Mastodon was created in 2016 and is also known as an ad-free platform. This platform looks similar to Twitter, but there are a lot of differences.
For example, on Twitter users tweet but on Mastodon this tweet is called a ‘Tot’.
When you sign up on this platform, you are asked which server you want to join. These servers are designed keeping in mind your region, trends and professions.
A lot of users were seen on Twitter saying that they have moved to Mastodon but according to them the platform is not as easy to use as Twitter.
A user named Brian Bilston wrote in a tweet, “I have no intention of leaving Twitter but still have an account on Mastodon.” Lest everyone disappear from Twitter and it’s just me and Elon Musk.’
“Who would have thought Elon Musk would spend 44 million dollars to promote Mastodon,” computer security expert Graham Cloughly said in a sarcastic tweet about Mastodon on Twitter.
Remember that Elon Musk has bought Twitter for 44 million dollars.
Some social media users described Mastodon as too complicated to use.
Adam K wrote in a tweet, “I have enrolled in a two year MSc and the course is called Mastodon how to join.”
“By the way, it’s hard to join my Mastodon, but it’s nice to see people using Twitter as a Mastodon help desk,” wrote a user named Melissa.
