Why is there a demand for a boycott of Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Pathan’ in India?

Chris Nair wrote in a tweet, “Why doesn’t BJP keep wishing Shah Rukh Khan on his birthday, just because he is a Muslim?”

The teaser of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s film Pathan, produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films, has been released on Wednesday, and with the release of this teaser, the voices of ‘Boycott Pathan’ have also started coming on social media.

Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathan will hit the theaters on January 25 next year and Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham will be seen together for the first time in this film.

This is Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s fourth film together.

Deepika Padukone made her debut in 2007 with Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om. After that, they also appeared together in Happy New Year and Chennai Express.

Supporters of Indian right-wing parties are among those calling for a boycott of Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathan.

Some users are also sharing an old video clip of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath advising Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahrukh Khan to go to Pakistan, saying, ‘I It seems that there is not much difference between the language of Shah Rukh Khan and the language of Hafiz Saeed.

It should be noted that Hafiz Saeed has been sentenced by Pakistani courts in various cases and is currently in jail. India has also accused him of being involved in the Mumbai attacks.

Shah Rukh Khan’s critics are also sharing an old clip of him in which the king of Bollywood praises Pakistani cricketers to pave the way for a boycott of the film Pathan.

In this clip, Shah Rukh Khan is saying that ‘I believe that Pakistani players are the best T20 players in the world and they are champions.’

Many users are accusing Shah Rukh Khan of being ‘anti-nationalist’. A user named Smita Das wrote, “I am requesting all nationalists to boycott Pathan.”

While there are talks of boycotting Pathan, Shah Rukh Khan’s fans are also defending their favorite actor.

Chris Nair wrote in a tweet, “Why doesn’t BJP keep wishing Shah Rukh Khan on his birthday, just because he is a Muslim?”

He wrote that Shah Rukh Khan’s fans should also follow the trend of ‘Watch Pathan’.

Shawali Borthakar wrote that ‘Politics and entertainment should not mix together. These two are separate professions and should be kept separate.

This is not the first time that right-wing ideologues in India have called for a boycott of a Bollywood film.
Earlier, even before the release of Aamir Khan’s film Lal Singh Chadha, there was a buzz of boycotting this film on social media.

Apart from Muslim actors in Bollywood, there are many other actors who have been targeted by supporters of Hindu right-wing parties.

Speaking in this regard, Indian actress Swara Bhaskar said in an interview that ‘Bollywood is an industry where Muslims are not only represented but also successful there, which is a cause of concern for right-wing ideologues. ‘

Throwing more light on the campaign of boycott of Bollywood, he told the British newspaper Guardian that “I think this is an attempt to restrict the right-wing ideology and its expression.”
