A brave young man risked his life to save the lives of people trapped in the flood in Loralai district of Balochistan.

The incident took place on Saturday near Kis Dam in Loralai area where a vehicle carrying five people got stuck in the flash flood following heavy rains.

The rapid flow of water almost swept away the vehicle and its occupants, but Attaur Rehman Loni, a contractor of a coal mine and a resident of Loralai, reached the spot and rescued the trapped people.
Atta-ur-Rehman Loni told Urdu News over the phone that “I did this only for the sake of humanity because I could not see five people drowning in front of me.”

He said that he was on his way to welcome his mother who was returning from Hajj. On the way stop at a place to eat with friends. There were other people staying there because of the flood relay but a car came and the people in it said that they can’t spend the night here so they tried to move forward by putting the car in the flood relay.

As the car went forward, the flow of water became so much that the car began to sink. I told my friends that these people are drowning so I will go to save them. My friends forbade me but I said that my car is heavy and will withstand the flow of water.

According to Atta-ur-Rehman Loni, the people sitting on the roof of the car looked very helpless. They were seeing death before their eyes. “I called out to them not to worry, I am coming and put the car in the water despite the prohibition of my friends.”

Atta-ul-Rahman said that when they approached the vehicle, the face of an elderly person among the trapped people had turned extremely yellow due to fear. I consoled them.

He said, “My car was heavy, so I put it behind the other car so that the water would not wash it away and then put the trapped people in my car and brought them out.”

Atta-ur-Rahman Loni further said that everyone has fear of death, but if there is a spirit of humanity, he will overcome this fear, so I did not worry about my life. I am happy that because of me the lives of five people were saved and they reached their homes safely.

The video of this life-threatening ‘rescue operation’ is viral on social media and people are appreciating Atta-ur-Rehman’s bravery. Social media users have called him the Messiah.

Deputy Commissioner Loralai Atiqur Rehman Shahwani told Urdu News that Attaur Rehman showed great courage and bravery. His spirit of sacrifice and character is an example for people.
