Re-election for Punjab Chief Minister will be held on July 22, Supreme Court said

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that this is the code of conduct of the Election Commission.

Following a hearing in the Supreme Court, the apex court passed the order after a consensus was reached between PML-N Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.

When the Supreme Court resumed hearing after the adjournment, PTI lawyer Imtiaz Siddiqui said that Hamza Shahbaz would remain the Chief Minister till July 17. Advocate General Punjab and Hamza Shahbaz’s lawyer have been consulted.

Justice Jamal Mandokhel said that there are two provincial assemblies in the province, which assembly will remain or not.

The Chief Justice said, “We are happy that there is a consensus between the two opposition groups. Thank God that there is some consensus among the political groups. This is a victory for both sides.”

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that this is the code of conduct of the Election Commission.

The Chief Justice said that family disputes are not being decided, there are small issues on family disputes, Justice Ejaz-ul-Haq said that both should show side grace, let the decision be taken in the House.

The Chief Justice said, “We cannot answer. You are a very successful lawyer and a capable person. The culture of backbiting is not good. You have been fighting for three months. Now look, the problem has been solved.”

Justice Ejaz-ul-Haq said that whoever competes in the field will win, the Chief Justice said that he will use words which will be acceptable to both the parties.

The Chief Justice asked whether Hamza had any intention of harassing and rigging his members, to which Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz said that he agreed that no one would be harassed.

Hamza Shahbaz said that political activists, jails have been cut, fair and transparent elections will be ensured.
